Jasmine Trinca is the guest of honour for the opening of the 47th Giffoni Film Festival. One of the best Italian actresses recently awarded at the Cannes 2017 Festival in the section ‘Un certain Regard’ for her extraordinary performance in Sergio Castellitto’s “Fortunata” will walk the blue carpet on 14 July at the Cinema Citadel.
The Italian actress made her screen debut at 18 when she was cast by Nanni Moretti for his “La stanza del figlio”, Palma d’Or winner in 2001. The role won her many awards for best emerging talent. She then landed a role in “La meglio gioventù” by Marco Tullio Giordana, for which she won the ‘Nastro d’Argento’ in 2004 for best actress and the Chopard award in Cannes.
In 2005 she went on to feature in blockbusters “Romanzo Criminale” by Michele Placido and “Manuale d’amore” by Giovanni Veronesi. In 2006 she was cast by Nanni Moretti for “Il caimano” (in competition in Cannes), where she portrayed a young director willing to make a controversial film on Berlusconi.
She won the Marcello Mastroianni award at the Mostra del cinema di Venezia and the Vittorio De Sica Award for “Il grande sogno” (2009) by Michele Placido. Her other film credits include “L’Apollonide – House of Tolerance” by Bertrand Bonello (2011) “Saint Laurent” (2014) by the same director. “Ultimatum” by Alain Tasma with Gaspard Ulliel and “Lovers (Une autre vie)” by Emmanuel Mouret.
In 2013 she starred in “Miele” by Valeria Golino (Un certain Regard, Cannes) and “Un giorno devi andare” by Giorgio Diritti (Sundance Film Festival) performances for which she won a Globo d’Oro and a Nastro d’Argento. She then featured alongside Sean Penn and Javier Bardem in “The Gunman” (2015) by Pierre Morel, originating the role of a young English doctor named Annie. In the same year she co-starred alongside Riccardo Scamarcio in “Nessuno si salva da solo”, by Sergio Castellitto who also cast her for “Fortunata”: the story of a young mother (Jasmine Trinca) with a failed marriage behind her, who fights daily for her dream to open a hair salon, challenging her fate in an effort to free herself and gain independence and right to happiness.
